VOLUBILIS

Volubilis is a partly excavated amazigh then Roman city in Morocco situated near Meknes between Fes and Rabat . It grew rapidly under Roman rule from the 1st century AD onwards and expanded to cover about 42 hectares with a 2.6 km circuit of walls. The city gained a number of major public buildings in the 2nd century, including a basilica, temple and triumphal arch. Its prosperity, which was derived principally from olive growing, prompted the construction of many fine town-houses with large mosaic floors.

CHEFCHAOUEN

Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier. Chefchaouen or Chaouen, as it is often called by Moroccans, is a popular tourist destination because of its proximity to Tangier and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The name refers to the shape of the mountain tops above the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. "Chef Chaouen" derives from the Berber word for horns, Ichawen.
